Men's Health Facts

NB: This part of the site is work in progress - thank you

Men’s Health remains to be a major concern in Scotland and research highlights the increase in male-specific cancers, and the growing prevalence of coronary heart disease, diabetes, stroke, and obesity.  Male life expectancy is low, health service use if low, suicide rates among men are very high and rising, violence between men and against women and children is common.

The pressure our society exerts of men to conform to its expectations of masculinity play a large part in shaping their health and well being i.e. the desirable male ideals of being strong and independent run counter to seeking help from our health services to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
