Stop Violence Against Women: Involving Men
Conference
Men's Health Forum Scotland in partnership with Amnesty International Scotland held a conference which focussed on the role of men in challenging violence.
The Conference took place on Thursday 30th March 2006 at West Park Conference Centre, Dundee

The event was chaired by Dr Richard Holloway and speakers included Monira Rahman, from The Acid Survivors Foundation; Patrick Lemmon from Men Can Stop Rape; Michael Kaufman from the White Ribbon Campaign and Lesley Ann Foster from Masimanyane Women's Support Centre. For more information about these projects, please see below.
The conference was aimed at:
- Men who are concerned about issues of violence against women, masculinities and violence.
- Men who would be committed to taking forward a programme of work to support the involvement of men
- Professionals with an opportunity to influence other men
The conference was to focus on the role of men in challenging violence and we were actively promoting the attendance of as many men as possible.

Speakers
Michael Kaufman
White Ribbon Campaign encourages personal and
collective action among men to challenge violence
against women. Men and boys wear a white ribbon as
a personal pledge to never commit, condone or
ignore violence against women.

Monira Rahman
The Acid Survivors Foundation delivers advocacy and public education programmes. Work with men has included a 5000 strong all-male march to highlight the issue of acid violence on International Women's Day.

Lesley Ann Foster
Masimanyane Women's Support Centre's formal
training has reached prisons, trade unions, local
municipal councillors and schools. The programme
seeks to include men in the action to end Violence
Against Women and all forms of discrimination.

Patrick Lemmon
Men Can Stop Rape seeks to train those who are
already influencers in their field, such as peer
educators and university personnel, and help build
their capacity to engage men in efforts to prevent
rape and other forms of men's violence.
